The Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) is a Eurasian owl that has a distinctive call, which makes it easy to recognize them.
Appearance[]
Tawny owls are have tawny brown back (hence the name), wings and underparts, with the underparts being slightly paler, dark barring everywhere. Their bill is a yellowy-brown, their eyes dark.
Feeding[]
Tawny owls feed on other birds, small mammals such as mice, and invertebrates.
Nesting[]
Tawny owls often nest in trees, preferably older ones, but they have also adapted to nesting in buildings, similar to barn owls. Their eggs are white and the clutch is 2 to 9.
Distribution[]
Tawny owls are found in most of Europe, excluding Ireland. They are also found in the north of Africa.
